You likely have memories as a child of going to the dentist – and probably not enjoying it until the end when you got to the toy box – but it’s important to remember that dental visits aren’t just for children who can’t take care of their teeth on their own.
Dr. Chris Houser recommends everyone visit Heritage Hunt Dental at least twice a year in order to receive the dental care they need. Let’s look at a few reasons why you need to visit the dentist regularly.
Deep cleaning you can’t do at home
By far the most prevalent reason to visit the dentist is that your teeth will be cleaned on a deeper level than anything you can accomplish at home. If you don’t have an electric toothbrush – one that cleans your teeth in a circular motion, as opposed to traditional brushes – you’re not cleaning as effectively as you could be. This is just one of many things our team can do at our office in Gainesville, Virginia to help improve your oral health.
This is perhaps the most important part of your dental visit. Over time, plaque builds up around your gum line. This plaque, if left untreated, will harden into tartar. If that tartar isn’t removed, it’ll cause gingivitis, which is a mild form of gum disease.
During a regular appointment, if you have any tartar buildup it’ll be removed via scaling, which isn’t a procedure you can do at home.
