At the first-ever Players Weekend in August 2017, Major League Baseball players wore jerseys with their nicknames on the back. One player — Cleveland Indians shortstop, Francisco Lindor — picked the perfect moniker to express his cheerful, fun-loving nature: “Mr. Smile.” And Lindor gave fans plenty to smile about when he belted a 2-run homer into the stands while wearing his new jersey!

Lindor has explained that he believes smiling is an important part of connecting with fans and teammates alike: “I’ve never been a fan of the guy that makes a great play and then acts like he’s done it 10,000 times — smile, man! We’ve got to enjoy the game.”

We think Lindor is right: Smiling is a great way to generate good will. And it feels great too… as long as you have a smile that’s healthy, and that looks as good as you want it to. But what if you don’t? Here are some things we can do at the dental office to help you enjoy smiling again:

Routine Professional Cleanings & Exams. This is a great place to start on the road toward a healthy, beautiful smile. Even if you are conscientious about brushing and flossing at home, you won’t be able to remove all of the disease-causing dental plaque that can hide beneath the gum line, especially if it has hardened into tartar, but we can do it easily in the office. Then, after a thorough dental exam, we can identify any problems that may be affecting your ability to smile freely, such as tooth decay, gum disease, or cosmetic dental issues.

Cosmetic Dental Treatments. If your oral health is good but your smile is not as bright as you’d like it to be, we can discuss a number of cosmetic dental treatments that can help. These range from conservative procedures such as professional teeth whitening and bonding to more dramatic procedures like porcelain veneers or crowns.

Tooth Replacement. Many people hide their smiles because they are embarrassed by a gap from a missing tooth. That’s a shame, because there are several excellent tooth-replacement options in a variety of price ranges. These include partial and full dentures, bridgework, and dental implants. So don’t let a missing tooth stop you from being Mr. (or Ms.) Smile!

CEREC CrownsNow you can get a brand new dental crown in just one visit to our office.

Say goodbye to taking multiple trips to the dentist for a crown! Here at Heritage Hunt Dental's office in Gainesville, VA, dentist Dr. Chris Houser can install a CEREC dental crown in just one day!

What are CEREC crowns?

Also referred to as same-day crowns, these dental caps are designed, fabricated and permanently placed in just a single appointment. CEREC stands for chairside economical restoration of esthetic ceramics, and the crowns produced by this state-of-the-art CAD/CAM technology look just like natural teeth! They are even matched to the proper shade of your smile so they blend right in.

What is the process of getting CEREC crowns?

Getting traditional crowns often takes 2-3 trips to the dentist’s office; however, CEREC crowns can uniquely be completed in just a single visit! Here’s what to expect when you get CEREC crowns at our Gainesville office:

  1. You will come in for a consultation and undergo an X-ray screening so that we can check the damage and to determine whether you are a good candidate for CEREC crowns or if you will need to undergo further treatment such as a root canal.
  2. We will numb the area around the tooth and then file the tooth down to make room for the crown.
  3. We will take digital images of your teeth, which will be uploaded onto our computer. Special CAD software will take your tooth’s measurements and help us create a custom-fitted crown.
  4. Once the crown has been designed, we will place a ceramic block into the milling machine where it will read the measurements provided by the computer software to chisel out your new crown. It only takes about 15 minutes for this crown to be made.
  5. Finally, we will check the fit of the crown, cement it into place, and polish it.

As you might imagine, being able to get a dental crown in just one visit also means that you won’t have to wear a flimsy temporary crown. You'll simply receive treatment and be on your way!

Give us a call!

Are you interested in finding out whether CEREC crowns are right for you? If so, call Heritage Hunt Dental in Gainesville, VA, at (703) 754-5800 to schedule a consultation with us. Remember, the sooner you treat a damaged tooth, the better!

June is the month when lots of important events happen—like weddings, graduations, and family get-togethers. When the weather turns balmy and the days get longer, it’s the perfect time for a celebration…and today it’s easier than ever to capture those special moments in pictures that will be treasured for years to come. Are you ready for your close-up?

Both professional photographers and dentists want to help you look your best when you’re smiling for the camera. Here are a few suggestions from both kinds of pros for capturing a great-looking smile.

Tilt your head just a bit

Instead of looking straight at the camera, try turning or tilting your head slightly. This often presents a more flattering angle, and can hide small facial asymmetries. If your face has a “good side” (you can check by looking in a mirror), be sure to make it visible. But even if your head is tilted or turned, your eyes should be looking at the camera.

Moisten teeth before the shutter clicks

A sparkly smile is the most appealing one. Just before the picture is snapped, run your tongue over your teeth to give them a little extra shine. Highlights in the teeth, lips and eyes add liveliness to your portrait.

Relax—Don’t clench your teeth!

It’s better to smile naturally—perhaps with teeth slightly parted, or lips in a more relaxed position—than to force yourself to make an artificial-looking grin. Try recalling things that make you joyful, or think of people you care about, and chances are your natural smile will shine out.

Have your teeth professionally cleaned at the dental office

Before the big event, you can ensure that your smile looks its best with a professional cleaning at our office. This treatment removes layers of plaque and tartar on visible tooth surfaces, as well as between teeth and under the gumline. It not only makes teeth look their best, but it’s also an effective way to fight tooth decay and gum disease. And while you’re here, it’s the perfect time to talk about any cosmetic issues that may be troubling you about your smile. With treatments like teeth whitening, cosmetic bonding or dental veneers, we can help you get the smile you’ve always wanted.

What your dentist in Gainesville wants you to knowcosmetic dentistry

Are you suffering from a broken-down, damaged smile? Do you wish you had more beautiful teeth? Is your smile showing your age? If you answered yes to these questions, it’s time to consider dental bonding and reshaping. Dr. Chris Houser at Heritage Hunt Dental in Gainesville, VA wants to share how dental bonding and reshaping can enhance and improve your smile.

Dental bonding and reshaping is an easy, non-invasive procedure with many important benefits. Just consider that dental bonding and reshaping is:

  • Painless, because it requires no anesthetic
  • Easy, because it is completely comfortable
  • Quick, because it can often be completed in one appointment
  • Inexpensive, because it costs far less than most cosmetic dental treatments

Dental bonding uses a unique material known as composite. This material starts out as a liquid resin which Dr. Houser will expertly sculpt and shape to match your teeth. Composite shades can also be custom matched to the color of your existing teeth, which means the bonding will be virtually invisible to those around you.

After the material is sculpted and shaped, it is hardened using a high-tech ultraviolet light. The bonded area is polished to blend perfectly with your smile.

Reshaping is often performed in combination with bonding. Reshaping can recontour jagged tooth edges, creating more rounded, ideal tooth shapes. The result is a smile that is more harmonious and beautiful. You should consider bonding and reshaping if you have teeth that are:

  • Heavily worn-down from aging
  • Cracked or chipped from trauma
  • Poorly-shaped from genetics
  • Gapped apart or overlapped from genetics
  • Stained or darkened from lifestyle habits
  • Deeply discolored from medications

If your smile needs improvement, it’s time to consider dental bonding and reshaping. The results are immediate, and you will be happy with your enhanced new smile. If you want to restore your smile to greatness quickly, easily, and inexpensively, dental bonding and reshaping is the right choice for you. When the multi-platinum recording artist, songwriter and TV personality Jason Derulo was recently asked about his ideal woman, his answer covered a remarkably broad spectrum. "There’s no specific thing," he said, "so I think it’s unfair to say what my ‘type’ is." But it turns out that there is one thing the So You Think You Can Dance judge considers essential: A beautiful smile.

"I’m not into messy teeth," Derulo said. "If the grill has spaces and different colors, it’s not my vibe."

As it turns out, he may be on to something: A number of surveys have indicated that a bright, healthy smile is often the first thing people notice when meeting someone new. Yet many are reluctant to open up that big grin because they aren’t satisfied with the way their teeth look. If you’re one of them, consider this: Modern cosmetic dentistry offers a variety of ways to improve your smile — and it may be easier and more affordable than you think.

For example, if your smile isn’t as bright as you would like it to be, teeth whitening is an effective and economical way to lighten it up. If you opt for in-office treatments, you can expect a lightening effect of up to 10 shades in a single one-hour treatment! Or, you can achieve the same effect in a week or two with a take-home kit we can custom-make for you. Either way, you’ll be safe and comfortable being treated under the supervision of a dental professional — and the results can be expected to last for up to two years, or perhaps more.

If your teeth have minor spacing irregularities, small chips or cracks, it may be possible to repair them in a single office visit via cosmetic bonding. In this process, a liquid composite resin is applied to the teeth and cured (hardened) with a special light. This high-tech material, which comes in colors to match your teeth, can be built up in layers and shaped with dental instruments to create a pleasing, natural effect.

If your smile needs more than just a touch-up, dental veneers may be the answer. These wafer-thin coverings, placed right on top of your natural teeth, can be made in a variety of shapes and colors — from a natural pearly luster to a brilliant "Hollywood white." Custom-made veneers typically involve the removal of a few millimeters of tooth enamel, making them a permanent — and irreversible — treatment. However, by making teeth look more even, closing up spaces and providing dazzling whiteness, veneers just might give you the smile you’ve always wanted.
