Dr. Alexis Wilson came to dentistry for one reason: the relationships. Born and raised in Durban, South Africa, she moved to the United States knowing she wanted a career built around caring for people over the long term. Dentistry gave her exactly that, and over a decade later, it still does.
Dr. Wilson earned her Master’s in Oral Health from Boston University before completing her dental degree at the University of Washington School of Dentistry. She spent six years practicing in Seattle before relocating to Northern Virginia with her family in 2020. She has been part of the Heritage Hunt Dental team ever since.

Education & Training
Dr. Wilson’s academic path reflects the same deliberateness that defines her clinical work. After moving to Boston, she completed a Master’s degree in Oral Health at Boston University, building a deep foundation in the science of oral disease, prevention, and systemic health before ever picking up a drill.
She then earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the University of Washington School of Dentistry in Seattle, one of the leading research-focused dental programs in the country. Her training there emphasized evidence-based practice, patient communication, and comprehensive care across every stage of life.
Following graduation, Dr. Wilson spent six years practicing in Seattle before making Northern Virginia home in 2020. She joined Heritage Hunt Dental and quickly became a familiar face to patients throughout Gainesville, Haymarket, and the surrounding communities.
Dr. Wilson’s Approach to Dentistry
Dr. Wilson chose dentistry specifically for the long-term relationships it makes possible. She is not interested in a revolving door of one-time visits. She wants to know her patients, understand their histories, and be the person they call when something feels off, when they want to improve their smile, or when they are due for a cleaning and genuinely do not dread coming in.
Her background in oral health science gives her a thorough, prevention-first mindset. She takes time at every appointment to explain what she is seeing, why it matters, and what happens if it goes untreated versus addressed now. Patients consistently say they leave her chair feeling informed rather than confused.
Having lived on three continents, Dr. Wilson brings a genuine ease with people from all kinds of backgrounds. New patients who have moved to the area and are starting fresh with a dental provider often find that ease immediately familiar.
