Education & Training
Dr. Houser’s path to dentistry started at Grove City College, where he earned his undergraduate degree before being accepted into one of the most competitive dental programs in the country.
He received his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine - a program consistently ranked among the top dental schools in the United States. His clinical training included rotations in general dentistry, oral surgery, periodontics, and restorative dentistry, giving him a broad foundation before he ever opened his own practice.
Since graduating, Dr. Houser has pursued advanced training with the rigor of someone who takes continuing education seriously. He holds a Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD) - a credential earned by fewer than 7% of dentists in the country, requiring 500 hours of documented continuing education and a comprehensive written examination. He is also a certified Invisalign provider and recently completed the Zest Full-Arch Certification Program, an advanced continuum focused on implant-retained dentures for edentulous patients - one of the most technically demanding areas of restorative dentistry. Dr. Houser handles the full spectrum of restorative dentistry in-house, from single crowns to full-mouth reconstruction.
Dr. Houser’s Approach to Dentistry
Dr. Houser did not build Heritage Hunt Dental by chasing the newest equipment or running high-pressure sales tactics. He built it by showing up consistently for the same families year after year - knowing their names, remembering their kids, and treating every appointment like it matters, because it does.
His philosophy is direct: he will tell you exactly what he finds, what it means, and what your options are. He will not recommend treatment you do not need, and he will not talk you out of treatment you do. He respects that you are an adult who can make your own decisions once you have the full picture.
Patients who are anxious about dental visits find that Dr. Houser’s calm, unhurried manner makes a real difference. For patients who have avoided the dentist for years out of anxiety or past bad experiences, Heritage Hunt Dental is often described as a reset.
A Little More About Dr. Houser
Dr. Houser grew up in the Pittsburgh area and earned his dental degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine - one of the top programs in the country and a source of genuine pride for him. Over the years he has found that a significant number of Heritage Hunt Dental patients share that Pittsburgh connection, whether through family roots, college ties, or having lived there at some point. It comes up more than you might expect, and it tends to make for a good first appointment.
Dr. Houser is a veteran of the US Army. After dental school he completed the Army's Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency and Airborne school at Fort Benning, Georgia. He went on to serve as the 82nd Airborne Division's dental surgeon at Fort Bragg, NC. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, Dr. Houser also served as a reservist at Fort Wainwright and Fort Richardson in Alaska.
That background shapes how he runs his practice. He understands the particular demands military life places on families - the moves, the disrupted care, the difficulty building a relationship with a provider who actually knows your history. Northern Virginia has one of the highest concentrations of active duty, reserve, and retired military personnel in the country, and Heritage Hunt Dental has served many of them over the years. Many of his long-term patients are military families who have moved frequently and know what it means to finally find a practice they can trust and stay with.
Outside the office, Dr. Houser is a husband and father. His family has been part of the Gainesville community throughout his time in practice, and the same values he brings to dentistry - honesty, thoroughness, showing up consistently - carry over into how he thinks about this community and the people in it.
Pittsburgh Roots, Northern Virginia Home
Dr. Houser grew up in Pittsburgh and earned his dental degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine - one of the top programs in the country and a source of considerable pride for anyone who went through it. If you are from Pittsburgh, you already know: people from Pittsburgh find each other. Over the years a remarkable number of his patients have walked in, spotted the Pittsburgh connection, and felt immediately at home. The Steelers, the Penguins, Primanti Brothers - it tends to come up.
The Gainesville and Heritage Hunt area also has a significant active duty and veteran population, and that shared background resonates with Dr. Houser, who served in the US Army as the 82nd Airborne Division's dental surgeon at Fort Bragg and as a reservist during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Many of his long-term patients are military families - people who have moved frequently and know what it means to finally find a practice they can trust and stay with.
