Dental Crowns and Bridges

Custom porcelain crowns restore damaged, cracked, or heavily decayed teeth to full function and a natural appearance. Bridges replace one or more missing teeth by anchoring to adjacent teeth - an alternative to implants when bone volume or other factors make implants less suitable.

Root Canal Therapy

When infection or decay reaches the pulp of a tooth, a root canal removes the infected tissue and seals the tooth - saving it from extraction. Modern root canals are no more uncomfortable than a filling and are far preferable to losing the tooth.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

Composite resin fillings match your natural tooth color, bond directly to the tooth structure, and require less removal of healthy enamel than traditional amalgam. We use tooth-colored fillings exclusively for all decay removal and cavity treatment.

Dental Implants

Dr. Houser is Zest Full-Arch Certified

Single implants, implant-supported bridges, and implant-retained dentures for full-arch cases. Dr. Houser completed the Zest Full-Arch Certification Program - an advanced clinical continuum for full-arch implant rehabilitation that very few general dentists pursue.

Dentures and Partials

Conventional full and partial dentures, as well as implant-retained dentures that snap onto implant anchors for dramatically improved stability. We discuss both options honestly so patients can make the right choice for their situation and budget.

Full-Mouth Reconstruction

For patients who need extensive work across multiple teeth or both arches, full-mouth reconstruction combines restorative and cosmetic procedures in a coordinated treatment plan. Dr. Houser handles complex reconstruction cases in-house, eliminating the need to coordinate across multiple specialists.

Do I Need a Prosthodontist?

Prosthodontists are dental specialists who complete an additional 3 years of post-graduate training specifically in complex restorative and reconstructive dentistry. For certain cases - particularly highly complex full-mouth reconstructions involving multiple specialists - a prosthodontist is the right choice.

However, many patients searching for a prosthodontist are simply looking for a dentist with the training and experience to handle more complex restorative needs than a general practice - and that is exactly what Dr. Houser offers. His Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry required 500 hours of documented continuing education across all disciplines including restorative dentistry, plus a comprehensive written examination. His Zest Full-Arch Certification is a specialized clinical continuum for implant-retained full-arch cases.

Why In-House Restorative Care Matters

When restorative work is scattered across multiple providers, things fall through the gaps. The specialist placing the implant doesn't see the occlusion issue the GP noticed three years ago. The lab making the crown doesn't know about the opposing teeth that were restored differently. Continuity matters enormously in restorative dentistry - and it only happens when one dentist sees the whole picture.

Dr. Houser has treated many of his restorative patients for 10, 15, and in some cases 20 years. He placed the original crowns, managed the bite through changes, and planned the implant work when it became necessary. That longitudinal view is something no new-patient specialist consultation can replicate.

Restorative Dentistry FAQs

What is the difference between restorative and cosmetic dentistry?

Restorative dentistry focuses on function - repairing or replacing teeth so they work properly. Cosmetic dentistry focuses on appearance. In practice, most restorative work also improves appearance, and many cosmetic procedures also restore or protect function. The distinction matters mostly for insurance coverage: restorative work is often partially covered, while purely cosmetic procedures typically are not.

How do I know if I need a crown or a filling?

The decision depends on how much healthy tooth structure remains. Fillings work well for moderate decay when there is enough enamel to support them. When decay or damage is extensive, a crown provides full coverage that protects the tooth from fracture. Dr. Houser will show you what he is seeing on X-rays and explain which option makes sense and why.

Does insurance cover restorative dental work?

Most dental insurance plans cover restorative procedures at least partially. Fillings are typically covered at 80% or more. Crowns are often covered at 50%. Implants vary significantly by plan. We accept Aetna, Anthem, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Delta Dental, Guardian, Humana, MetLife, United Concordia, Connection Dental, and GEHA. CareCredit financing is also available. Call (703) 754-5800 and we will verify your coverage before your appointment.

What is full-mouth reconstruction?

Full-mouth reconstruction is a comprehensive treatment plan that addresses multiple teeth across one or both arches simultaneously. It typically combines crowns, implants, bridges, and bite correction in a coordinated sequence. Patients who have experienced severe wear, decay, trauma, or tooth loss affecting most of their teeth are often candidates. Dr. Houser develops and executes full-mouth reconstruction plans in-house.
